Denizens brings special expertise to technical environments. The nature of our client’s business - part laboratory, part shop, part workplace - required navigating onerous zoning and permitting requirements. We worked extensively with mechanical and electrical engineers for innovative solutions, such as routes for the mandated separation of airflow, while maintaining a design feel. Solving such problems is intrinsic to our practice and represents a significant part of our value to corporate clients.

For the cohesion of their corporate and development teams, our client eschewed a location outside the city, where industrial infrastructure would be more available. This presented certain challenges, but also the opportunity to create a truly unique space. We merged the function and utility of a lab with the heritage site (formerly a women’s prison) and the inherent style of the brand. We laid a consistent lab grade epoxy floor, but maintained warmth with wood elements, bold colours and statement artwork.

The result is creative, impressive, and above all, fun for the staff who work there every day.
